How to fight the patriarchy
(a poem)
Somewhere between the fight you carry in your chest
And the person you are when no one is looking
Is the person who can change the world.
Sometimes fighting the patriarchy
is making risotto and
dancing barefoot and bra-less
in your kitchen.
Sometimes taking a nap
is the armor you allow yourself
from a world parading for your attention.
Who is to say
what it will take to heal a transforming world?
Can you show up while you, too, are being birthed into the next incarnation
of who you are?
Can you soften into the chaos?
Can you heal through the fire?
Can you take action on behalf of
who you are becoming,
While you wait for your wings
to allow you to fully take flight?
There is no salvation in injustice,
but somehow
we can’t change an unjust system
if we are, also, broken.
So how do you find your freedom?
How do you claim your own salvation?
How do you move through the world
in a way that embodies the new world we want to leave the generations to come?
How do you become so free,
that nothing can tighten you into the constructs of a broken system
How do you show up
fully, like the moon on a cloudless night,
showing a new way of
perceiving the night sky.
